Fashion Week Anyone?

I know that for most people, fashion is not even remotely interesting. Toothpicks walking in clothes that look like they got dressed in the dark; I get it, and while sometimes I agree with you, the good designers will not make you feel like that. (Michael Kors, Dolce & Gabana, Dior, etc.) But how does fashion week even work?

First of all, there is ALWAYS a fashion week going on, however, they are not the big four fashion weeks, which are:

1. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (New York, USA.)

2. London Fashion Week

3. Milan Fashion Week

4. Paris Fashion Week.

While the public is not allowed to attend (I know right!?), the press and buyers from luxury department stores (Saks Fifth Ave. Bloomingdales, Barneys, etc.) and famous people are allowed to go.

There are really only 2 MAJOR fashion weeks, in February/March, designers show their Fall/Winter collections, in September/October, designers show their Spring/Summer collections. It’s backwards, why is it backwards? My best guess is so the fashions that people saw in March will be made, delivered and priced for sale by the time the corresponding seasons arrive, however I am sure there are more reasons than just that one.

For those who are “fashionistas” like I am, you are probably wondering, what about Ready To Wear (RTW) collections? Great question! Ready to Wear fashions are shown between the months of February/March and September/October as fillers in the designers collections therefore they are always putting out a new product.
