Guide to Buying Sunglasses

I know summer is over, but that does not mean that autumn in Maine does not require sunglasses.

Sunglasses are very important especially in the summertime, but really, anytime there is sun, you should be wearing sunglasses.

There are so many different kinds of sunglasses, shopping for them can be overwhelming, especially when you do not know what shapes and colors look good on you!

There are different face shapes that will help you choose sunglasses to accentuate your natural features: Square, Heart, Round, and Oval.

Square:

A square face shape means that you have very angular features and a strong jaw line. To help you soften these lines, you should look for rounded sunglasses. If you want to take some of the attention off of a stronger jaw line, look for sunglasses that sit higher on your nose and face.

Oval:

An oval face shape, if you have an oval face shape, you can wear almost any kind of sunglasses. Your face is not overly angular or round and full. For all of you, you can really wear almost any kind of sunglass frame. Make sure you are aware of the proportions. Do not go for overly large sunglasses if you have smaller features, vice versa.

Round:

If any of you are like me, you have a round face. Your face is full, the widest part of your face is at the cheekbones and your face is not angular at all. To help you create a jaw line, angular cheekbones and an overall more angular face, look for square or angular sunglasses. Like with the oval face shape, make sure that the glasses are proportionate to your features!

Heart Shaped:

Heart shaped faces mean that your face is wider at the forehead and narrow at the chin. Instead of doing opposite shapes as the other face shapes, look for something that mirrors this shape. Aviators are a good choice for you, the lens is wider at the top and narrower at the bottom. It will accentuate your already natural curvy and angular face.

As for colors, I feel that colors of the sunglasses is going to be up to you. Look for something that compliments your skin tone, hair color, and your wardrobe choices. Me personally, I either go with a jet black sunglass with the darkest lenses possible, or I will go with a brown tortoise shell to compliment my hair.

The sides of the sunglasses can either be thick, thin, shiny or plain, choose accordingly when you think about your wardrobe and of course your personal likes and dislikes, I personally like some “bling” on the side of my sunglasses; they give my sunglasses some personality. Everyone will be different so make sure you are thinking about this when you are shopping for sunglasses!

As with all of my blogs, what you wear is an investment. Buy good sunglasses! They need to withstand the sun, the shade and everywhere else in between. Cheap sunglasses will break, usually at the worst possible time, so go out and make an investment for your eyes by buying quality sunglasses.
