Men’s Fashion for Winter

So I know that I am a woman and that I know how to dress, and understand woman’s fashion, however, I am a heterosexual woman and I know what looks good on men, in my own opinion. Women, just like men, have their own styles that they are attracted to when it comes to the apparel of the other sex. Me, personally, I love a chic, preppy dresser. This is probably because I am a chic and preppy dresser too, therefore, that is what I am attracted to.

So just as a disclaimer to the guys, I am not telling you how to dress. Actually, strike that; this goes for women who read my blog too. I am never telling you what to wear, I am solely giving you a different perspective, and ideas on how to create your own style. So this blog about men’s winter fashion I will give you guys ideas on how to stay warm, while looking professional and chic. Keep in mind your own personal style, if it does not fit your style, that is ok, that is what keeps everyone unique!

Ok guys, let me just put it out there, it is November 24th today, you can put the shorts away, it is winter.

Professional men on the go, and even male college students are usually active and need to be comfortable. Here are a few ways to be comfortable while being warm and chic.

1. Layering: The trick to being warm in the cold winter months in the great state of Maine is layering thinner, body conscious garments. Below, we find a guy in a camel pea coat, a nice warm tweed blazer, and a nice blue button down shirt, with a pair of appropriate fitting jeans, with a belt. Unfortunately I cannot see what he has under his blue shirt but I am going to bet he has a white tee shirt or a white tank top; this man is sporting 4 layers, he is warm and looks put together and chic.

2. Sweatshirts: While I am ok with sweatshirts on both men and women, I do not think they have a place in the professional work world. I understand running from classes and you just need to throw on your sweatshirt and go. But professional people should probably take a little bit more time and energy into their everyday look. If you are looking for a sweatshirt for the comfort and maneuverability, but you do not want the look of the baggy sweatshirt, take a look at the sweatshirt below; These zip up hoodies look like hoodies, but they also look like a sweater, therefore you get the look of wearing a classic sweater, but you have the comfort of a sweatshirt.

3. Leather: Luxurious leather. Even though it is expensive and hard to maintain, it is completely worth it. Even though leather is fairly thin (depending on the coat) it will keep you SUPER warm, because it hugs close to your body, keeping your body heat close to you. This also goes for gloves! Leather gloves are important and will keep your hand toasty.

4. Boots: I have a personal vendetta against people who do not wear boots in winter, especially in Maine. We get lots of snow and your sneakers will not get you through a foot of snow. In the winter time, men should get a great boot for walking down the street in the slush and the little bit of snow that may have been left behind from people plowing the sidewalks, or lack of plowing…but that is a different topic. There is a difference between a snow boot, something you go and shovel snow with, and then there is a boot. Snow boots are important too, but they are not appropriate for going to work. Look for a boot that is above the ankle and has no shoestrings, you can just pop your foot in and out easily. If you can, get a pair that will look good with your work attire, like the boots below:

5. Hats: My mom always told me that you have to wear a hat in the winter time because you lose 90% of your body heat through your head; therefore it is so important to wear a hat. Hats really are the lost accessory, which maybe I will blog about later. Well there are MANY different kinds of hats you guys can wear, just like there are a multitude for women too! My personal favorite is the driving cap, as seen below. These hats are extremely chic right now. You can dress it up or down, and is the perfect winter hat for guys. They come in a multitude of patterns and colors. So stop with the beanies.
