France Fashion

I have been reading in the news and my family and friends Facebook posts that is it cold in New England…Well here in Normandy, France, it has been 50 degrees and raining…for about 3 weeks….straight. Although, I will take this rain before snow any day.

But this is not a weather blog, this is a FASHION blog.

I have been here now for 3 weeks and I can tell you, in all of those 3 weeks I have seen 1 pair of sweatpants….and they were mine.

I love this place! People actually dress up to go outside….they take pride in what they wear and they put thought into it, not just closing your eyes and picking something from your dresser.

Here are a few fashion elements that I have noticed here in France:

1. Scarves: They are HUUUUGE right now. Everyone has a scarf on with whatever jacket they are wearing. It is either a knitted scarf (like an infinity scarf), or it is a cashmere scarf, usually Burberry.

2. “Leather Leggings: I know I have written in the past that I hate leggings, and I do if they are wearing them wrong, or shouldn’t be wearing them in the first place. If your shirt covers your butt, and there are no panty lines, and you are not wearing Ugg boots, and you can pull the legging look off, by all means, go for it.  However, right now the big trend is leather, or “pleather” leggings with high heel boots or booties. I may or may not have bought a pair of snake skin leggings…ok, yes I did.

3. Peacoat: Pretty much straight forward, everyone in France owns a peacoat, it is a timeless staple in every wardrobe. It is chic, it can be playful, not to mention the varieties!

4. Fur: Real or fake, I am not here to post about animal rights, or people’s rights to wear something else’s skin, I am here to tell you that fur is huuuge for this winter. Fur on coats, or scarves or gloves or hats or bags, it does not matter, fur is in, and it is warm.

5. Sans Makeup: Nobody in the town I am living in, wears make up. I find it a little odd because I never, EVER leave my house/apartment in the US without makeup. 90% of the people I know, wear some kind of makeup everyday. I stand out in this crowd of women, with my black eyeliner, smoky eye, and Dior lipstick #985.

All in all I am loving this place…people love fashion, they take risks, they have passion for their clothes…I am so glad I decided to come here and do a little studying of fashion myself; I have found a whole new style for myself too. Don’t get me wrong, I love my suits and skirts, but I also love my fur vests, my snake skin leggings, and leather blazer.
