Do you smell that? I do believe that is the smell of wedding season! If you’re like me, then you are looking at your Facebook in dismay at everyone’s wedding day countdown. If you are part of the bridal party, then you know that your dress has already been chosen for you by the bride. This can cause some tension between bridesmaids and brides because if the dress is too formal then you are not going to be able to wear it again, but you do not want it to be too casual either; you ARE part of the ceremony, you are an important part. But what are you going to do with that dress that you had to buy to be a part of the wedding day? There are ways of being able to use it again after the wedding. It all comes down to the style of the dress. If it is a short cocktail or tea length dress, it should be fairly simple to style it so it does not look like you are a runaway bridesmaid. Longer dresses are a little more challenging. Not many people wear a gown to a date or girls night. One of the biggest ways to change the dress is obviously to bring up the hemline to be at cocktail or even mid-thigh. Not only will it change your perception of the dress, but not many people will think that it was once a dress you wore in your best friends wedding. For this dress I used Polyvore to create an romantic date-night look that is using a bridesmaid dress.
For this look, I took inspiration from very classic, clean colors. The royal blue dress is the focal point of my look, The chiffon gown has clean details and lines and therefore is very easy to style. I added a fur (I obviously would wear fake fur) shawl; the fall and winter months in New England can be awful, so a little shawl never hurt anyone. As for accessories, I use neutrals to make sure I kept the focal point the dress. I added a beige Yves Saint Laurent clutch and a pair of beige Gianvito Rossi pumps. Because of the gold detail of the YSL bag, I chose yellow gold for accessories. Because the dress is strapless, you can easily wear a necklace and it will not take away from the neckline of this dress. The next accessory is the arrow ring. It is very dainty and small, but it is eye-catching. The hair and makeup are “to each their own” but I felt as though if you are going on a romantic date and you are wearing a gown, a very simple up-do and a bold red lip are as classic as a gown. I hope this blog was enlightening to some and I hope that you all are able to style your bridesmaids dresses so it is not stuck in your closets!
